Nashville's street art scene has exploded over the past decade, turning Music City into one of America's great outdoor galleries. From the Instagram-famous angel wings in The Gulch to a 15-story portrait painted on a grain silo in The Nations, there are world-class murals in almost every neighborhood — and the best part is they're all free to visit. This is my complete neighborhood-by-neighborhood guide to Nashville's murals, with names, addresses, artists, and the stories behind them.

The Gulch
The Gulch is Nashville's single richest neighborhood for street art and should be the first stop on any mural tour. Everything below is within a short walk, and you can easily pair it with brunch at Biscuit Love or Milk & Honey.
What Lifts You — Angel Wings
Artist: Kelsey Montague📍 230 11th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37203
The most photographed mural in all of Nashville. These giant white lace wings — 20 feet tall and the largest Montague has ever painted — are filled with Nashville-specific icons like cowboy hats, guitars, and BBQ grills. Colorado-based artist Kelsey Montague created the global #WhatLiftsYou campaign, which places interactive wings in cities around the world and invites people to stand inside and share what inspires them. The Nashville set is so beloved that Taylor Swift commissioned Montague to create a follow-up butterfly mural to premiere her single "ME!" — and Swift personally showed up to meet fans. Look for the smaller second set of wings on the same wall, sized for pets and kids.
Insider tip: The line for a photo can get long on weekend afternoons. Come before 10am and you'll usually have the wings to yourself.
Acoustic Skyline
Artist: Allison Johnson📍 915 Division St, Nashville, TN 37203
Painted in November 2016 on the side of an A+ Storage building, this mural fuses Nashville's downtown skyline into the body and neck of an acoustic guitar — the perfect tribute to Music City. The storage facility's owner spotted Johnson's work hanging at the 3rd and Lindsley bar and commissioned the piece. Her brother Drew helped her finish it and left a tiny signature near the word "gulch."
Nashville Walls Project — Jason Woodside Mural
📍 299 11th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37203 | Artist: Jason Woodside
Part of Phase 2 of the Nashville Walls Project in 2017, this large-scale piece features Woodside's signature layered geometric patterns of colorful lines reminiscent of washi tape. Local artist Nathan Brown assisted. Don't miss the tiny, beloved Lego Man mural by "For Becks" on the same wall.
Nashville Walls Project — Ian Ross Mural
📍 251–299 11th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37203 | Artist: Ian Ross
Created alongside the Woodside mural in 2017, Ian Ross's large abstract work faces the parking lot on 11th Avenue South. Ross had previously painted murals for clients like Facebook, and local artist Chris Zidek assisted on this one.
Candy Hearts
Commissioned by Finnley's Boutique📍 601 8th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37203
A wall of oversized candy hearts painted with classic and Nashville-specific phrases like "Cheers Y'all," "Bach Please," and "What Would Dolly Do?" The adjoining boutique commissioned it with bachelorette parties in mind, and it's now one of the most photographed spots in The Gulch.
Hear This Nashville (Giant Ear & Microphone)
📍 901 Gleaves St, Nashville, TN 37203 | Artist: Adam Newman
An interactive mural featuring a giant microphone and ear that begs visitors to pose like they're singing — or screaming — into it. Helpful lighting makes it photogenic day or night.
12 South
12 South has arguably the greatest concentration of murals per block in the city, and almost all of them are walkable from one another. Pair your mural walk with a stop at Frothy Monkey or The Butter Milk Ranch.
I Believe in Nashville
Artist: Adrien Saporiti📍 2700 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204
The most iconic mural in Nashville's history. Nashville native Adrien Saporiti created it in March 2012 as a monument to the city's resilience after the catastrophic 2010 Tennessee floods, drawing the bold red, white, and blue design from the Tristar symbol on the state flag. It has appeared on Instagram over one million times. Multiple versions exist around the city — at Marathon Music Works (1402 Clinton St) and at Basement East (917 Woodland St, East Nashville), where the mural became a second symbol of resilience after it was the only part of that block left standing following the March 2020 tornado.
Nashville Looks Good on You
📍 2509–2511 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204 | Artist: TheNash.TN
A simple, bold black-and-white typographic mural in the parking lot behind Frothy Monkey — reach it through the back alleyway between Beechwood and Sweetbriar Avenues. Several versions of this one exist around town.
Looking Pretty, Music City
📍 2709 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204 | Artist: Emily Eisenhart
On the side of the Madewell store, this mural pairs bold typography with floral accents — one of the most recognizable text murals in the 12 South corridor.
Make Music Not War
📍 2902 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204 | Artist: Relax Max Apparel
A simple but powerful message on the side of Epice Restaurant, directly opposite the Flower Mural in a shared driveway. It captures the whole spirit of the neighborhood in four words.
Flower Mural (12 South Flowers)
📍 2900 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204 | Artist: Unknown
A beloved floral wall on the side of a café that draws big crowds despite nobody being quite sure who painted it. Same driveway as Make Music Not War — two photo ops in one stop.
Country Girls (Just Wanna Have Fun)
📍 2803 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204 | Artists: Rachyl LaGrone / Mackenzie Carpenter
Bright, colorful, and country-flavored — a fan favorite for group photos, especially bachelorette crews.
Bottoms Up Nashville
📍 2403 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204 | Artist: Ali Futrell
On the side of Bottle Cap Nashville, this summery mural sits across from the retro-styled Playdate Fun Bar mural.
Blue & White Wall (Draper James)
📍 2608 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37204
The classic blue-and-white stripes on Reese Witherspoon's flagship Draper James store are one of the most photographed walls in 12 South — and they're directly across the street from the original I Believe in Nashville mural.
East Nashville
East Nashville has a more local, artsy character than the tourist-heavy Gulch, and its murals reflect that creative, community-driven spirit.
Dolly Parton Mural
📍 1006 Forrest Ave, Nashville, TN 37206 | Artist: Unknown
A vibrant portrait of Dolly with bright colors and her signature smile. East Nashville is Dolly territory, and this has become one of the neighborhood's signature photo ops.
What Lifts You — Hot Air Balloon
📍 1034 W Eastland Ave, Nashville, TN 37206 | Artist: Kelsey Montague
Montague's second major Nashville mural is a hot air balloon with an interactive basket you can actually step into — arguably the most visually inventive of her Nashville pieces, and far less crowded than the wings.
Stay Tuned
📍 615 Main St, Nashville, TN 37206 | Artist: DCXV Industries
One of East Nashville's most popular murals, with colorful graphic lettering at Center 615. It's become the go-to East Side mural landmark — and yes, the address really is 615, Nashville's area code.
East Nashville Sign
📍 600 Main St, Nashville, TN 37206 | Artist: Unknown
A bold, black-and-white sign-style mural on the Joyner and Hogan Printing Co. building that anchors the Main Street corridor.
Slay Dragons / Wish Upon a Star
📍 1224 Meridian St, Nashville, TN 37207 | Artist: Kim Radford
Commissioned by musician Drew Holcomb, a longtime East Nashville resident, and painted by local artist Kim Radford in the Cleveland Park neighborhood.
Downtown & Broadway
Good Trouble
Artists: Michael McBride & Donna Woodley📍 Corner of Rep. John Lewis Way & Commerce St, Nashville, TN 37219
Nashville's largest mural — four stories tall and over 50 feet wide. Unveiled in November 2021, it honors the late U.S. Representative John Lewis and the Nashville Freedom Riders, including CT Vivian, Ernest "Rip" Patton, Diane Nash, Rev. Kelly Miller Smith, and Kwame Lillard. Local Black artists Michael McBride and Donna Woodley were selected for the project, which is the first piece of art honoring Nashville's civil rights history in the downtown corridor — fittingly, on the street now named after Rep. Lewis.
"As Long as the Grass Shall Grow" (Calligraffiti)
📍 144 5th Ave N (L&C Garage), Nashville, TN 37219 | Artist: Niels "Shoe" Meulman
Part of the inaugural 2016 Nashville Walls Project sponsored by Gibson Custom Guitars, this mural features lyrics from Johnny Cash's 1964 protest song "As Long as the Grass Shall Grow," from Bitter Tears: Ballads of the American Indian. Amsterdam-based Meulman calls his style "Calligraffiti" — graffiti aesthetics blended with calligraphy. The same building also features Revive! by Beau Stanton, the trompe l'oeil Beautiful Decay by Tavar Zawacki ("Above"), and Angels & Monsters at 154 5th Ave N by John Grider, Isaac Arvold, Dew Peterson & Eric Inkala.
Rone Portrait
📍 530 Church St, Nashville, TN 37219 | Artist: Rone (Tyrone Wright)
A large photorealistic portrait of a woman by internationally acclaimed Australian street artist Rone, known for his cinematic, melancholy female portraits. Painted for the 2016 Nashville Walls Project, with a parking lot directly in front for easy viewing.
Herakut — "One Day I Will Rescue Your Brother Too"
Artists: Herakut (Jasmin Siddiqui & Falk Lehmann)📍 204 6th Ave N, Nashville, TN 37219
One of the most emotionally resonant murals in Nashville. The German duo Herakut painted a pit bull wearing a superhero cape holding a small child, with the words "One day I will rescue your brother too" in flowing cursive. Does the person rescue the dog, or does the dog rescue the person? Created for the 2016 Nashville Walls Project — look for free street parking on 6th Avenue North.
Country Legends Mural
Artist: Tim Davis📍 428 Broadway (Legends Corner), Nashville, TN 37203
The most photographed mural on Broadway, depicting country music royalty all gathered at the same bar — originally Tim McGraw, Loretta Lynn, Blake Shelton, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Keith Urban, Merle Haggard, Reba McEntire, Alan Jackson, George Strait, Dolly Parton, and Garth Brooks. Mt. Juliet–based artist Tim Davis unveiled it in December 2016. Taylor Swift was removed and replaced with Brad Paisley in a 2020 update, and more recently the late Toby Keith was added, raising a red Solo Cup in a nod to his hit song.
Germantown
Rolf & Daughters Mural
Artist: Shantell Martin📍 700 Taylor St, Nashville, TN 37208
A sweeping black-on-white mural of abstract line-work figures and phrases, painted by world-renowned artist Shantell Martin as a personal favor to a friend in May 2014. Martin — featured in the New York Times and named New York's "it girl" in 2011 — worked in her signature black-ink-on-white style.
Kindness Is… (The Kind Way)
📍 1120 4th Ave N, Nashville, TN 37208 | Artists: Rebekah & Sarah
A collage-style mural representing equality and harmony for all (also referenced as "Harmony"), located next to a juice bar in Germantown.
Instagram Like
📍 1230 4th Ave N, Nashville, TN 37203 | Artists: Rebekah & Sarah
A fun, graphic mural themed around the Instagram "like" button — meta enough that you pretty much have to post it.
The Nations (West Nashville)
Silo Mural — Portrait of Lee Estes
Artist: Guido van Helten📍 1407 51st Ave N (best viewed from 5202 Centennial Blvd), Nashville, TN 37209
Nashville's most monumental mural: a photorealistic portrait of 92-year-old Lee "LD" Estes painted on the side of a 15-story abandoned grain silo, formerly part of the Gillette Grain Co. Estes lived in The Nations since the 1920s and witnessed the neighborhood's entire transformation. Commissioned by the Nashville Walls Project with support from Metro Council and art dealer Brian Greif, it was completed in spring 2017 by acclaimed Australian muralist Guido van Helten, who specializes in large-scale portraits of people in communities undergoing rapid change. The silo now anchors Silo Bend, a 38-acre mixed-use development.
Insider tip: The best view is from the shopping complex parking lot on Centennial Boulevard near White Bison Coffee — grab a coffee and take it in.
Spread Love the Nashville Way
📍 1404 51st Ave N, Nashville, TN 37209 | Artist: Project 615
A community-focused mural celebrating local pride, right across from the Silo Mural.

Off the Wall Gallery
Artists: Seth Prestwood, Sentrock, Alic Daniel, Tess Erlenborn, Nino C. Flores & more📍 3020 Charlotte Ave (Abbott West Storage complex), Nashville, TN 37209
Nashville's largest mural gallery — a 1,200-foot-long exterior wall along the Abbott West Storage complex, now home to at least 17 individual murals. Conceived and organized by Tinsley Anne Dempsey, the wall got its first mural from Seth Prestwood in 2014 and has grown to include local and national artists, with funding from the Nashville Walls Project and the Buckingham Foundation. Colorful geometric designs, animals, abstract patterns, civic messages — it's best enjoyed as a walking tour along Charlotte Avenue near the ONEC1TY development.
Wish For Peace
📍 4816 Charlotte Ave (beside Hugh Baby's), Nashville, TN 37209 | Artist: Jake Elliott
A heartwarming illustration inspired by blowing on a dandelion and making a wish, with colorful paper cranes as a symbol of hope.
North Nashville / Jefferson Street
Jimi Hendrix & Johnny Jones Guitar Duel
Artist: Norf Collective📍 2614 Jefferson St (Elks Lodge / former Club Baron), Nashville, TN 37208
A historically significant mural commemorating a legendary 1963 guitar duel between Jimi Hendrix and local Nashville blues guitarist Johnny Jones at Club Baron — a duel Jones is widely said to have won. Club Baron was the premier Black entertainment venue on Jefferson Street, hosting Etta James, Little Richard, Fats Domino, B.B. King, and Hendrix himself, who later credited Nashville as the place where he "really learned to play." In March 2026, the National Park Service officially added the Club Baron site to the National Register of Historic Places.

📍 2611 Music Valley Dr (back of Nashville Palace), Nashville, TN 37214 | Artist: Halfmooncraftworks
A fun, colorful Dolly Parton mural in an alleyway facing Scoreboard Bar and Grill near the Grand Ole Opry — worth a stop if you're out by Opryland.
The Nashville Walls Project
If one thing explains why Nashville's mural scene is world-class, it's the Nashville Walls Project (NWP). This privately funded initiative launched in 2016 with sponsorship from Gibson Custom Guitars and brought eight internationally renowned street artists — including Herakut (Germany), Rone (Australia), Niels "Shoe" Meulman (Amsterdam), Adele Renault (Amsterdam), Hush (England), Mars1 (USA), Mike Shine (USA), and Curiot (Mexico) — to paint downtown Nashville's oldest buildings. Phase 2 in 2017 focused on The Gulch with Jason Woodside, Ian Ross, and local Nashville artists, and later phases brought Guido van Helten to The Nations for the iconic Silo Mural. The NWP is managed by art dealer Brian Greif, who starred in the documentary Saving Banksy.

Insider tip: If you only have one morning, do The Gulch and 12 South back to back — they're five minutes apart by car, and between them you'll hit the angel wings, I Believe in Nashville, Candy Hearts, and a dozen more, all before the crowds show up.
